Macclesfield Road

Whilst working at GRT Architecture in Wirksworth these clients wanted to regularise a small outbuilding to the rear of their property into a holiday-let as well as undertake substantial upgrades to their newly purchased arts and crafts house in Buxton.

An existing rear conservatory and poor-quality side extension was to make way for a new two-storey modern extension housing a new master bedroom suite and family bathroom above a new open-plan kitchen living diner with boot room and utility space.

The architecture aims to contrast in style in a bid to be deferential and avoid muddying the balance of the arts and crafts original.  Red tiles on the original roof would be brought down as cladding for the new flat-roofed addition and a discrete courtyard to the booth room hidden behind a moon gate remembers a porthole window the client liked in the former side extension.
